Blog 3----Genshin impact Fandom: Love for characters, resonance and conflict with game
In the large Genshin Impact player community, putting characters first is the most important value. Players view in-game characters as virtual beings with their own personalities and emotions, and they do not want these characters to be treated carelessly only for commercial purposes. This shared attitude has led to both strong resonance and frequent conflicts with official game content and fan-made creations.
Official storylines and settings provide the main support for this value. The well-written stories in Zhongli’s quest, Furina’s journey of self-redemption in the main plot, and Raiden Shogun’s gradual growth all create fully developed characters, which satisfy players’ desire for characters to be treated with respect and bring the community closer through shared affection for these roles. In addition, the humanistic stories of Liyue(A city's name) and the dramatic world design of Fontaine(As same as LiYue) match players' expectations for logical and coherent plots, and the popularity of exploring game details among fans is a clear sign of this agreement.

However, the company’s commercial operations often conflict with players’ beliefs. Many older characters are neglected for a long time, some story quests are poorly designed, character settings become inconsistent, and the company sometimes sacrifices plot logic simply to increase sales of new characters. All these issues cross the line of players’ principle of putting characters first and cause widespread dissatisfaction and protests. This conflict is essentially a struggle between players’ emotional attachment to characters and the company’s drive for profit, and it has become the most discussed topic in the player community.

Fan-made works help to fix the weaknesses in official content. When the official story leaves gaps or disappoints fans, players write fan fictions, create hand-drawn animations, and rewrite parts of the plot. They add new storylines for neglected characters, correct unreasonable settings, and fix unsatisfying parts of the original story, turning the idea of “putting characters first” into tangible creative works.

From agreeing with official content to facing conflicts and then mending regrets through fan works, almost all interactions in the Genshin community center around love for the characters. This is not only a way for players to express their feelings toward virtual roles, but also a unique method for them to build a sense of belonging and voice their own opinions within the community.
